๐ซ The Story Behind This Heavenly Mousse
Letโs be realโlifeโs too short to skip dessert.
But if youโve ever had that internal monologue like:
โShould I?โ
โWill it mess with my hormones?โ
โDo I really need it right now?โ
Girl, I feel you. ๐โโ๏ธ
This mousse was born out of one of those nights. PMSing, moody, craving everything, and determined not to fall into a sugar crash spiral. So I raided my pantry with the stubbornness of a woman on a missionโฆ and boomโthe birth of this decadent, creamy, rich-but-light guilt-free miracle in a jar.
Itโs not just about the dessert. Itโs about taking back the pleasure of eating something indulgent, nourishing your body, and honouring your cravings without the drama.
This is dessert therapyโserved cold and silky.
๐ง Cravings, Hormones & Chocolate: A Love Triangle
Letโs get nerdy for a second, shall we?
When your body screams chocolate, itโs not just being dramatic. Dark chocolate (especially 70% and up) is a natural source of magnesium, which your body burns through when youโre stressed or on your period. It also helps with serotonin productionโaka the feel-good hormone. Thatโs why this mousse doesnโt just hit the spot; it actually helps regulate your mood and nervous system. Howโs that for a plot twist?
Pair that with healthy fats from coconut milk, a touch of raw honey, and boomโyouโre basically spooning a hormone-balancing miracle into your mouth. Youโre welcome.
๐ซ Make It Yours โ Toppings & Twists
Want to level it up even more? Here are some ideas to jazz it up:
๐ซ Antioxidant Boost: Top it with fresh berries like raspberries or blueberries for a hit of fiber and vitamin C.
๐ฅฅ Tropical Vibes: Sprinkle on shredded coconut or toasted coconut flakes.
๐ Mood Magic: Add a drizzle of cherry compote or pomegranate seeds for extra flare.
๐ฑ Mint Moment: Garnish with fresh mint and dark chocolate shavings if youโre feeling fancy.
๐ฅ Salty-Sweet Goddess: Add a spoonful of almond butter or crushed roasted hazelnuts for a crunchy twist.
๐ Batch, Store & Savor the Sweet Life
One of my favorite things about this mousse? It stores like a dream.
Double (or triple ๐) the batch and keep it in the fridge for up to 3 daysโor freeze it and enjoy frozen spoonfuls when cravings hit like a wrecking ball.
Itโs basically your emergency stash of happiness.
๐ก Bonus Hack: Turn It Into a Parfait!
Layer this mousse with:
Coconut yogurt
Chia jam
Granola
Banana slices
โฆand boomโyouโve got a breakfast-turned-dessert-turned-breakfast-again situation. I call it the โangelic indulgence parfait.โ
Add protein powder of your choice to make it protein reach
If you check nutrition info (down below) you could see this dessert is low in protein (itโs dessert it doest need to be!) but there is a way for this too ๐
๐ง A Closer Look at the Health Benefits
๐ฅฅ Coconut Milk
Rich in MCTs (medium-chain triglycerides) which support metabolism and energy.
Contains lauric acidโgreat for immunity with antiviral & antibacterial properties.
๐ซ Dark Chocolate (70%+ cocoa)
Loaded with flavonoids, which support heart health and reduce inflammation.
A delicious source of magnesium, iron, and zinc.
๐ฏ Honey
A natural sweetener with antioxidants and antibacterial benefits.

๐ฉโ๐ณ Pro Tips for the Perfect Mousse
Use full-fat coconut milk โ for that dreamy texture!
Chill the can overnight โ this separates the creamy part you need.
Melt chocolate gently โ avoid burning by using a double boiler or water bath.
Adjust sweetness โ start with 1 tbsp of honey and add more if needed.
๐ Ingredients (Serves 4)
๐ฅฅ 1 can full-fat coconut milk (chilled overnight)
๐ซ 1 cup dark chocolate (70% cocoa or higher)
๐ฏ 2โ3 tbsp honey (or to taste โ maple syrup works too!)
๐ง How to Make It โ Step-by-Step
1. Chill Coconut Milk
Refrigerate the can overnight. Open it without shaking and scoop out the solid cream into a bowl. Discard or save the liquid for smoothies.
2. Melt the Chocolate
Break the chocolate into pieces and melt it gently:
My go-to method: Place a heatproof bowl over a pot with simmering water (double boiler style). Stir until smooth.
Microwave option (if you use it): Heat in 30-second bursts, stirring between each.
3. Mix It All Together
In a mixing bowl, combine the coconut cream, melted chocolate, and honey. Whip with a hand mixer or whisk until smooth and fluffy.
4. Chill
Refrigerate the mousse for at least 4 hours (or overnight) to set and intensify the flavor.
5. Serve & Enjoy!
Spoon into serving bowls and top with fresh berries, shredded coconut, mint, or a drizzle of extra honey.
๐ซ How to Melt Chocolate Properly
Youโll Need:
Heatproof bowl (glass or metal)
Pot with 1โ2 inches water
Spatula or spoon
Steps:
-
Simmer water gently in the pot (donโt boil).
-
Place the bowl on top, ensuring it doesnโt touch the water.
-
Add chopped chocolate and stir continuously until melted.
-
Use immediately or reheat gently if it starts to harden.
โ Tips:
Avoid water getting into your chocolateโit causes grainy texture.
Use good quality chocolate with real cocoa butter.
Stir constantly for even melting.
โ๏ธ Storage & Leftovers
Fridge: Keep mousse in an airtight container for up to 3 days. Stir before serving.
Freezer: Freeze in portions for up to 1 month. Thaw in the fridge overnight and mix to regain texture.
